As COVID-19 cases continue to fall and vaccinations become more available, It’s likely that many will celebrate the end of their long quarantine with a trip to their local craft brewery. Craft breweries are more abundant in some states over others however. Check out this graph below to see if your state makes the top ten.

Unsurprisingly the state with the most craft breweries is California, which boasts a whopping 518 breweries. This isn’t a surprise considering the state has the highest population in the country at 39.5 million people.

A high population however doesn’t guarantee an abundance of craft breweries. Washington, which holds the 2nd spot on the list with 305 craft breweries, only has a population 7.6 million people.

Breaking up the west coast monopoly on craft brews at 3rd place is Colorado, which has long been a hotbed for craft and microbreweries and only continues to grow.

The pandemic has hit the craft beer industry hard, with one survey from the Brewer’s Association reporting that 22% of all craft brewers nationwide reporting that they don’t think they’ll still be operating by the end of 2021.

Despite volatile opening conditions, states like Ohio still saw an uptick in new craft breweries open their doors during the pandemic.
